Mega Boat Ramp Opens

WEDNESDAY, JULY 21, 2010
            The Lavonia Chamber of Commerce joined a host of city, county and state dignitaries to celebrate the grand opening of the mega-boat ramp at Tugalo State Park, July 13.             Six boats can launch simultaneously to accommodate fishing tournaments as large as 300 boats. Ample parking is available and the ramp extends into the water about 23 feet, enabling it to be used even in time of drought. Simpson Construction Co. moved 30,000 dump truck loads of dirt to create the site. Click on the photo to read more and see more photots.

Car Show And Mainstreet Music

Ty Cobb On Base For Regional Healthcare

Ty Cobb Healthcare System, Inc. and NGTC Health Properties, LLC have announced a joint venture to bring a new state of the art hospital to the area, along with much needed physician specialists. NGTC Health Properties, LLC is a partnership involving more than 40 primary care and specialty physicians. They, along with Ty Cobb Healthcare Systems, have joined forces in an effort to build a 56-bed hospital just outside Lavonia on Clear Creek Road.

History - The Train Depot

In 1979, the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce acquired the train depot from the Southern Railroad and began the beautification of it for use as the Chamber of Commerce office with other rooms available for use by citizens.

According to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Lavonia is the smallest city in the United States with an original Carnegie Library building. The Lavonia Carnegie Library, which celebrated its 100th birthday in 2009, began its history in December of 1904.
